André-Charles Boulle (1642–1732) was one of the most influential French cabinetmakers of the 17th and 18th centuries. Developing the technique of turtleshell and metal marquetry that would later carry his name, Boulle revolutionised the practice of furniture making while shaping the taste of his exclusive patrons, foremost among which were Louis XIV, his family and his courtiers.
Here, you can explore Boulle’s life and patrons, as well as his furniture in the Wallace Collection and the techniques he used to make them. You will also be able to learn more about the cabinetmaker’s legacy, the conservation of Boulle furniture at the museum and the past display Keeping Time: Clocks by Boulle (November 2024 – March 2025).
