In spring 2024, the Wallace Collection launched a collaboration with British artist Flora Yukhnovich (1990). Known for her modern interpretation of Rococo art, Yukhnovich created two new paintings inspired by François Boucher (1703–1770), a leading artist of the Rococo period. Boucher had a major influence on French art, and his work strongly shaped Yukhnovich’s style.
Her new works, Folies Bergère (2024) and In a World of Pure Imagination (2024), temporarily replaced Boucher’s Pastoral with a Bagpipe Player (1749) and Pastoral with a Couple near a Fountain (1749) at Hertford House. These modern pieces were set within an 18th-century context to encourage visitors to reflect on Rococo’s relevance today and how the setting of art affects how it is understood. Through the Wallace Collection’s past display, Flora Yukhnovich and François Boucher: The Language of the Rococo, visitors were invited to experience the lasting appeal of the Rococo movement.
