Built in 1776 for the Duke of Manchester to designs by John Crunden, Hertford House today holds the Wallace Collection. Join us in the Research Library to explore how this 18th-century home developed into a world-class museum for all.
Discover our display of architectural drawings and prints, exploring how civil architect Sir John Taylor turned domestic and stable offices into the Wallace’s renowned galleries. Delve into our 20th-century drawings collection detailing Ian Grant’s celebrated undertaking of interior restoration, alongside material from the centennial building project.
Archival material will also examine lost domestic office spaces and the contributions of 19th and early 20th-century staff to the Collection.
