Join Curatorial Assistant, Dr Julia Van Zandvoort, to explore the life, character and a variety of works of Bernard Palissy (1510–1590), dubbed in modern times the ‘French Leonardo’ or the ‘prophet of modern ceramics’. 

In the Wallace Collection’s so-called ‘Smoking Room’, there is a case of ceramics unlike any other. Small reptiles, creepy crawlers and fishes decorate basins and plates covered in life like vegetation. All depicting a style of ceramics that were the invention of the French potter.
