Sketching in the Galleries

Individuals are welcome to sketch from artworks in our galleries. The following art materials and equipment are permitted:

  • Graphite and coloured pencils
  • Verithick pencils
  • Graphite sticks
  • Conté pastels and compressed charcoal
  • Rubbers
  • Barrel pencil sharpeners

In order to safeguard our collection and maintain the best environment for our artworks, please do not use:

  • Chalk
  • Charcoal
  • Felt-tip pens
  • Sharp-ended scissors
  • Blades or knives
  • Wax Crayons
  • Oil Pastels
  • Soft pastels
  • Easels
  • Water

Please be mindful of visitor flow in the galleries. If you are unsure about where to position yourself, our Gallery Team are happy to make recommendations. Tours and talks led by Wallace Collection personnel (usually wearing a Wallace Collection name badge) have priority in the galleries. Gallery stools are available from the Cloakroom.

Our collection is on open display and all artworks, including furniture, are extremely fragile and should not be touched.
