The Listening Housewife: Everyday Scenes in Seventeenth Century Holland

Short course: 17th July - 20th July, 11am-3pm

The greatest contribution to art history by Dutch artists was the subject of everyday life but just how everyday were the men and women depicted in these scenes of domesticity? The Wallace Collection's The Listening Housewife by Nicolaes Maes is the starting point for this four-day course on 'genre' paintings taught by James Heard.
