The moving image artwork, No Shepherdess / No Pastoral connects objects formerly owned by Marie Antoinette with a lost opera she once sang from the eighteenth century. This opera, Le Roi et le Fermier (The King and the Farmer) is performed separately to each object portrayed in the film, which are housed in various collections around the UK including, the Wallace Collection, Madame Tussauds, The National Trust and the Victoria & Albert Museum. The performances recorded in the work create new conversations between Marie Antoinette, the objects, their makers and the collections that now hold them. As part of the artwork there will be an installation in The Study on the first floor, where a number of the objects that feature in the work are displayed. This will be open for viewing pre-screening from 5pm. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion between the artist, Estella Castle, Wallace Collection curator Helen Jacobsen and Madame Tussauds’ archivist Zoe Louca-Richards. Free, but booking essential.
