For this last talk in the series linked to the exhibition, An Enquiring Mind: Manolo Blahnik at the Wallace Collection, Dr Helen Jacobsen will be joined by Manolo Blahnik CEO, architect and designer, Kristina Blahnik, who brings her unique insight on architecture and interiors from store design to exhibitions; Brand Content Director of Wallpaper* Magazine, Tony Chambers; interior designer Sophie Ashby; and editor of Luncheon Magazine, Frances von Hofmannsthal. Looking at interiors from the 19th century to present day, we will explore how we curate spaces, and how the spaces we experience influence and inspire creative practice.
The Wallace Collection’s unique and sumptuous interiors form a rich backdrop to its collection of masterpieces and to the shoes temporarily on display from Manolo Blahník’s archives. Unlike many contemporary gallery spaces and museums, with neutral or whitewashed walls, the Wallace Collection evokes the colours and textures of another age and helps bring context to the old master paintings, furniture and porcelain it contains. This raises questions of how we respond to interiors and the emotions that they create. We discuss the way in which designers seek to create spaces that best answer the demands of artworks and fashion pieces, both contemporary and historic.
Your ticket includes an exclusive after hours view of the exhibition An Enquiring Mind: Manolo Blahnik at the Wallace Collection and a glass of wine. The exhibition and drinks will be available from 5.30pm to 7pm only. The panel discussion will begin at 7pm sharp.
