Making Portraits: Happy, Sad, Laughing, Glad!

Date: Friday 29 October 2021
Times: Sessions at 10.10, 10.45, and 11.15, which last around 75 minutes
Meeting Point: Lower Ground Exhibition Galleries
Ages: For Families 5+

Event Description: Explore pictures of people and use sketching and collage to make your own colourful portrait to display in the Studio courtyard.

Portraits are pictures of people that tell their story through the clothes they wear, their facial expressions and their bodies. Sometimes, you can spot objects or places in portraits that tell us more about who they were. In this special event for families, we’ll take you on a storytelling journey through our new exhibition, up the grand staircase to explore and draw in our Great Gallery, before finishing in our Studio where you’ll make your own colourful collage portrait to display or take home.

Families will have exclusive access to the Frans Hals: The Male Portrait exhibition during the event, featuring our famous portrait of The Laughing Cavalier.

Booking Information: Free, but booking is essential. One family ticket allows up to five people, not including children under the age of 3 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

To help keep everyone safe, we encourage adults to wear their masks and social distancing is advised as much as is practical. Hand sanitiser will be available at all locations. Families will be allocated their own materials and creation stations.
