Film Screening: The Souvenir

Winner of Sundance 2019's Grand Jury Prize, The Souvenir is the compelling, semi-autobiographical drama from award-winning director/writer Joanna Hogg. It stars Honor Swinton as a quietly ambitious film student in the early 1980s who becomes romantically involved with a complicated and untrustworthy man (Tom Burke). Jean-Honoré Fragonard's painting, The Souvenir -found upstairs in the Wallace Collection- gives the film its name and serves as a recurring motif throughout. The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with Davina Quinlivan from Kingston University, currently completing a book on the British Art cinema of Joanna Hogg, and Yuriko Jackall, Curator of French Paintings at the Wallace Collection.
