If you have ever wondered how our furniture was made, used and looked after, come to this study day. We will be looking at the evolution of furniture in the context of styles, interiors and comfort, based on examples from both within and outside the collection, with particular emphasis on certain furniture types, such as desks, chests of drawers and chairs. We will also be discussing construction techniques, materials and the preservation of these wonderful art objects. In the afternoon gallery talks, some of the pieces of furniture will be opened to enable a close look at interior features, arrangement, decoration and finishes. Jointly taught by Christylle Philips and Senior Furniture Conservator, Jurgen Huber and strictly limited to 20 people, this study day is not to be missed.
