London Craft Week: Riesener at the Wallace Collection

Jean-Henri Riesener (1734-1806), along with Thomas Chippendale and David Roentgen, was one of the greatest furniture-makers of the eighteenth century. Born in Gladbeck, Germany, Riesener emigrated to Paris early in his career and became a highly successful cabinetmaker who supplied luxurious furniture to Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and the French court. Join this talk during London Craft Week 2020 to explore the designs, materials and techniques Riesener used to create his masterpieces.

Riesener Talk Series, in Collaboration with the Furniture History Society

Join us online for three evening talks dedicated to Jean-Henri Riesener, one of the greatest French cabinetmakers of all time and famed for the exquisite furniture he made for Marie-Antoinette and the royal court of Louis XVI.

This free series coincides with the publication of the first major monograph on Riesener, presenting new research based on the extensive collections of his furniture in the Wallace Collection, Waddesdon Manor and the Royal Collection.
