Community Programme

Community Programme

We are committed to making our collection as accessible and inclusive as possible to our audiences, offering a wide range of workshops for all ages both at the museum and as outreach in the community.

Working in partnership with charities and community partners our programmes are all free of charge and aim to address barriers to cultural engagement and support visits for people who are new to the Wallace Collection. Recently we have worked with older people in care settings, people affected by homelessness, people with mental health issues, people from different minority ethnic communities, refugees and asylum seekers, adults with SEN and hospital patients.

For further information or to book please contact one of our Community Education Officers on 020 7563 9577 / 020 3876 3164 or email community@wallacecollection.org

Onsite / At the Museum

Below are some of the free activities that we can deliver for your group here at the Museum, but we may also be able to design bespoke sessions if you would like to do something a bit different.

Tea and Tour

An informal, interactive tour of the collection with a member of the Education team.

Tour and Draw

A relaxed tour and drawing skills workshop in our galleries

SEN

Multi-sensory tours and practical art workshops for groups with special educational needs and learning disabilities

ESOL Tours

Themed tours are available to ESOL learners at Entry 1 and 2 and can be adapted for higher levels

Practical Art Classes

Full day and half day workshops available including life drawing sessions for adult groups but also for play-schemes, family and holiday club groups.

Offsite - Out in the Community

The Wallace Collection understands that sometimes people are unable to visit the Museum and we are committed to bringing our Collection out in to the community as much as possible. Below are some of the free outreach sessions that can be booked.

Out of the Frame

Out of the Frame is our programme of interactive talks for older people in care and community settings. We use the museum collection as inspiration for one-to-one and group discussion.

Hospital Outreach

A dedicated programme of interactive talks, creative workshops and practical art activities delivered in hospitals and healthcare settings from paediatrics to elderly care focusing on art and culture for health and wellbeing.

Practical Art Classes

Designed for adults and children and delivered at community centres. Both full day and half day workshops are possible.

Loan Boxes

Our themed resource boxes are available for care homes and day centres to borrow, as an innovative way to facilitate an experience of the museum. These were specially designed to be a stimulus for discussion so that care home staff and volunteers could deliver their own sessions with residents.

Community Ambassadors Programme

This is an annual training programme for refugee and asylum seekers to become community tour guides at the museum.

We offer new guides useful skills training, opportunities to learn about art and the chance to meet new people. Starting in February each year Community Ambassadors meet three times a month at the museum for training. When training is completed, volunteers will deliver tours to visitors at the museum.

We are looking for friendly and enthusiastic people with:

  • An interest in art and/or history
  • A high level of spoken English
  • Willingness to commit to a training programme leading to giving guided tours to the general public.

At the museum we will offer:

  • Skills-based training e.g. communication skills, public speaking,
  • The chance to meet new people – other volunteers, curators, visitors
  • Support in delivering tours to visitors
  • Reimbursement for travel costs (up to £20 per session) and light refreshments

The 2018 programme is now full, however if you or someone you know is interested in taking part in the 2019 programme please call 020 7563 9577 or email community@wallacecollection.org
