The exuberance of this seventeenth-century goblet reflects the speed and skill with which the semi-molten glass was worked by the glassmakers, either in Venice, renowned for its glassmaking, or elsewhere in the flamboyant Venetian style. Astonishingly light to hold, it is richly decorated. A fine trail encircles its bowl and its complex stem incorporates a pair of opposed colourless wings representing seahorses.
