Conservation: A Recently Conserved Fiedler Commode

A chest of drawers (commode) made c.1786 by the German cabinet-maker Johann Gottlob Fiedler (born c.1735) has recently returned to display in the West Gallery following conservation, which has revealed the fine detail of its neo-classical marquetry roundels, set off by elegant gilt-bronze mounts. The commode is one of an important group of commodes by Fiedler, others of which were made for patrons such as Crown Prince Friedrich Wilhelm of Prussia, later King Friedrich Wilhelm II.
