The Wallace Collection’s Young Curators Project was developed in collaboration with educators and families from our local primary school (St. Vincent’s RC Primary School) in 2009. In 2009 – 2010 children selected works of art from the Collection and organised a public exhibition, Shhh…it’s a Secret!, the first of its kind in a National Museum. The second phase of the project, which started in 2010 is ongoing, and has involved the pupils learning from and collaborating with museum staff to give tours to the public.
The project’s main aims are to foster a love for the arts in children whilst building their self-confidence, to give children an active way to engage meaningfully with their local cultural institution, and to change the perception of both museum personnel and the public about the capabilities of young people. After participating in the project, children are deeply engaged with the Collection with dramatically improved confidence and communication abilities.
In 2016 the Museum commissioned an extensive in-depth evaluation of the programme. The summary evaluation of the report can be downloaded here
