Diploma in the History and Business of Art and Collecting in London, Paris, Brussels and Florence
This one-year course, organised by the Institut d'Etudes Supèrieures des Arts (IESA) in conjunction with the Wallace Collection, is designed to develop a deep understanding of European visual arts while acquiring the professional skills essential for working in an arts environment.
The course consists of four modules, which can also be taken independently; three months in Paris and London, one month in Florence (Museum of Boboli Garden, Stibbert Museum, Museo degli Argenti and the Palazzo Spinelli) and Brussels (Horta Museum).
Core lectures, taken by all students, cover the structures and practices of the art market today, including issues of law, finance, ethics and conservation so that students understand the different English and Continental practices.
Students choose between two specialist options: the history of collecting and contemporary art. There are frequent excursions in all four centres to important collections, dealers, galleries and auction houses. Students are assigned project work throughout the year, followed by a dissertation.
