Celebrate our Journeys East exhibition by venturing into a seventeenth century world with a unique Asian twist!

Join costumed characters Jean Pellicorne and the Young Archer to discover the fascinating legacies of Dutch seventeenth century trade, economic expansion and the resulting Dutch Golden Age. Enjoy unique musical performances given by the ‘Joy of Sound’ and Tabitha Tuckett inspired by wonderful Dutch Masterpieces painted by Jan Steen and Gabriel Metsu. Get creative by creating your own Delft inspired tiles and experience the world of Dutch poet Jacob Catz by watching ‘Cupid Lost’ filmed by the Children’s Society. Adults can attend talks on Dutch seventeenth century portraits including Frans Hals ‘The Laughing Cavalier’, the journeys and histories of the Dutch East India Company, the international aspects of the Netherlands in the Golden Age, and Dutch Landscape Painting in the 17th Century. Jo Edkins will also provide fascinating demonstrations on bobbin lace making throughout the day, as seen in Caspar Netscher’s painting, the Lace Maker.
