Gregoire Ponceludon de Malavoy (Charles Berling), a poor French Lord, travels to Versailles to petition Louis XVI to help him save the people of his region from a mosquito infestation. There, he is told that that he has no chance of success unless he can impress the court with his verbal prowess. He soon learns that survival at court demands both a razor wit and an acid tongue.
