The exquisite gilt-bronze decoration and superb porcelain mounts on this little table attest to the very high quality of craftsmanship associated with furniture by Martin Carlin. With hidden drawers and a clever ratchet system, the table was for both reading and writing. It would have been an exquisite addition to a fashionable Parisian interior of the 1780s.
