(Stephen Frears, 1988) colour, 119 minutes, Cert 15
Based on Francois Choderlos de Laclos' 1782 novel Les Liasons Dangeureuse, the film follows two aristocrats, the beautiful but depraved Marquise de Merteuil (Glenn Close) and her former lover, notorious rake the Vicomte de Valmont (John Malkovitch) as they embark on a sophisticated game of seduction and manipulation to bring amusement to their lacklustre lives. The Marquise challenges Valmont to seduce the virginal Cecile de Volanges (Uma Thurman) before the girl can be married, while Valmont bets the Marquise that he will be able to bed the virtuous married Madame de Tourvel (Michelle Pfeiffer). But as their intrigues become more duplicitous and they find their human pawns responding in ways they could not have predicted, the consequences prove to be more serious, and deadly, than Merteuil and Valmont could have guessed.
Cost: £3, payable on the door. Please note that this film is not suitable for unaccompanied under 18s
